Freedom of Information

Access to information

These pages explain how you can access and request information held by SQA. They set out our commitment to you, and provide details about how we will handle your requests for information.

SQA has obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998, the Freedom of Information Act 2002, and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004:

  • The Data Protection Act gives you the right to know what information is held about you, and sets out rules to make sure that this information is handled properly.
  • The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act gives you the right to request information from public bodies (including SQA) and for this information to be given to you unless there are good reasons to withhold it.
  • Similarly, the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations give you the right to request information about the environment and for this information to be given to you unless there are good reasons to withhold it.
