The financial services industry encompasses a wide range of activities to do with personal, industrial and commercial finance.

Achieving the SQA HND in Financial Services can lead to a career in a wide variety of commercial environments.

The SQA HND in Financial Services consists of a total of 30 Unit credits. Each Unit credit is designed to take about 40 hours teaching and learning (though it may take more or less time than this).

An SQA HND in Financial Services can gain you entry into a two-year Masters degree programme in a university in the UK.

H0C0 35 Personal and Business Lending

Unit Specification H0C0 35

The Unit Personal and Business Lending (H0C0 35) has been revised and re-coded as some of the Knowledge and/or Skills and Evidence Requirements have changed. The new code is HF2H 35.

Centres must enter candidates for the replaced Unit (HF2H 35) Personal and Business Lending from 1st August 2016.


The content of the Unit has been reworded to ensure that the content reflects the methods that lenders use to review borrowing requests following regulatory changes in 2010. The content changes also reflect the changes made in the Accounting Units to comply with FRS 102. Outcome 4 has been changed as a result of changes in the techniques used by lenders to handle personal/business failure.
We have revised the Assessment conditions for the Unit in response to feedback from centres. These are as follows:
The assessment will be based on a single case study which can be issued in advance to students to aid their preparation ahead of the assessment. Students will NOT be permitted to bring any notes into the assessment.
The recommended time for completion of the assessment has been increased from 2 hours to 3 hours.

The Assessment Support Pack for the new Unit "Personal and Business Lending (HF2H 35 ) will be available on the secure web pages listing all Assessment Support Packs from August 2016.

The Course Tutor Guides for frameworks containing this Unit will be updated and be available by August 2016.

 

Revised Unit Codes

The following Units have been updated to take account of the revised Unit codes.H0Y7 35 Financial Services:Graded Unit 2 and H7VA 35 Financial Services:Graded Unit 3 (version 02). Centres should download the current version.

The Unit "Investment" DE5P 35 has been revised by the Unit "Investment" H9AM 35.The Unit "Pension Provision" H0BY 35 has been revised by the Unit "Pension Provision" H9NC 35. The Unit "Principles of Insurance" DE5R 35 has been revised by the Unit "Principles of Insurance" H9ND 35. Centres may continue to enter candidates on the Units "Investment" DE5P 35, "Pension Provision" H90BY 35 and "Principles of Insurance" DE5R 35 but all candidates must have completed and also submitted results for the Units “Investment" DE5P 35, "Pension Provision" H0BY 35 and "Principles of Insurance" DE5R 35 by no later than 31/7/16.

Centres are encouraged to move over to the Units "Investment" H9AM 35, "Pension Provision" H9NC 35 and "Principles of Insurance" H9ND 35 as soon as possible and all new entries after 31/7/16 must be for the Units "Investment" H9AM 35, "Pension Provision" H9NC 35 and "Principles of Insurance" H9ND 35.

Unit Specification DE3N 34

The Unit "Communication: Analysing and Presenting Complex Communication" DE3N 34 has been revised by the Unit "Communication: Business Communication" H7TK 34. Centres may continue to enter candidates on the Unit  "Communication: Analysing and Presenting Complex Communication" DE3N 34 but all candidates must have completed and also submitted results for the Unit "Communication: Analysing and Presenting Complex Communication" DE3N 34 by no later than 31/7/16.

Centres are encouraged to move over to the Unit "Communication: Business Communication" H7TK 34 as soon as possible. All new entries after 31/7/16 must be for the Unit "Communication: Business Communication" H7TK 34.
